NASCAR and Stockcar Racing

What?

Ok, this is a quote out of this mornings Arizona Republic.
The quote is attributed to Robin Braig…the new
Executive Vice President and General Manager of
Phoenix International Raceway.  The quote is in regards
to the 40% (really 87%) increase in season ticket prices at PIR
for 1999.

"And by bringing the Busch series to PIR,
that becomes a more expensive ticket for us.
The prize fund, the sanctioning fee, and
television all cost more for a Busch race
    than a truck race."

Ok…I understand why the prize fund would be more
and I understand why the sanctioning fee would be
more, but what is he trying to say about the
television?

If I’m not mistaken, the television PAYS the track for
the right to broadcast the race.  Bringing BGN to the
track as opposed to CTS should mean that the track
will get more money.  If he is trying to say that the track
will get less money because it has chosen to hold
a BGN race rather than a CTS race…I have to wonder
why the track would even want a BGN race.  After all, it
isn’t like the CTS race was having trouble selling tickets.

Tinadog says:  Anyone care to offer some insight on why
it would cost the track more money to have television
coverage of a BGN race as opposed to a CTS race?
