That’s an interesting number. Is GB the "winningest driver
in NASCAR" since 1999?
I was sad to see him get collected in tonight’s race. :o(
Marty
I’m quite surprised that GB is on top. JG 13 win season came in 98 and i
thought there was another season but it’s surprising that Biff is leads this
list. I’m baffled.
I’m pretty sure Cruz had a stat on HMO winning success to compare.

Biffle has 16 wins in Truck, 17 in Busch and 8 in Cup.
1999: 9 Truck;
2000: 5 Truck;
2001: 5 Busch, 2 Truck;
2002: 4 Busch;
2003: 1 Cup, 2 Busch;
2004: 2 Cup, 5 Busch;
2005: 5 Cup, 1 Busch.
Biffle currently leads the "most wins since xxxx" stat for every year
from 2005 back to 1999. Then JG takes over with the 13 win year in
1998. Here are the stats since 1995. That adds four seasons and

It means lots!. To me it means 2 things: You need to get out more <g> and
that’s pretty interesting information. Biff sure knows where those victory
lane/circle things are, doesn’t he? Since he’s got 3 series in that mix, how
many different tracks does that 41 represent? Any wins in all 3 series at one
track?

If you had vast amounts of spare time, it might be interesting
to add the number of races run to that list. Biffle’s clearly
run more races than Gordon over that span. Be interesting to
see who besides Gordon has a lot of wins in a few races.
John
It really does not mean that much guys. Some of these guys were not racing
in 1999. Some are bushwhackers racking up Busch wins with Nextel crews and
resources like MM. Percentage of wins compared to # of starts in the
particular division is what counts. Heck, what if I were to tell you that I
have 60 wins since 1999, does that mean I would be a better driver even if
those wins came in the local arena, and go-karts? (PS I am not racing now so
that would not occur but you get my drift) No, I think you have to look at
many factors from year to year as to who is hot and who’s team is having to
struggle. DEJ, JG, and MK come immediately to mind for having problems this
year. Also BLaB is in the toilet this year. The clocks just keeps going and
the teams don’t always keep going with it.

Hey, to each StatMan his own!
If u began in ’98 instead of ’99, then JG would have 45,
MM would have at least 25 from Cup alone, ’98 BGN? Dunno.
No doubt Bif has been a very good driver in all 3 series.

I ain’t workin’ all that out! I have a nice little Excel/Access
combination that made the basic data entry and calculation pretty
easy. That’s as far as I’m going…
Here’s the most wins since 1998 since somebody mentioned that:
Jeff Gordon 45
Greg Biffle 41
Dale Earnhardt, Jr. 35
Jeff Burton 28
Mark Martin 27
Matt Kenseth 27
Tony Stewart 24
Kevin Harvick 21

If anybody wants the Excel spreadsheet I stuck the basic data in, I’ll
send it to them they can add number of starts. It’s just four columns
of data: name, year, series, wins. Then they can work out percentages
themselves or send it back to me and I’ll import it into my database
and do it automagically. I didn’t initially think of adding starts
and wanted to get at least back to 1999 before getting bored of the
exercise and quitting, so I didn’t do more than I had to.

Ask and ye shall receive (or fer sure, ‘don’t ask and you ain’t gettin’
nothin”). Thanks to John, much more dedicated than I, here are GB’s wins. The
short answer seems to be: 0 tracks with a win in all three series; 11 tracks
with a win in 2 series; 22 different tracks that he’s been down Victory Lane and
parked in Victory Circle.
I’m guessing there has to be some track where one guy has won in all three
series. I guess that wouldn’t be too hard to find out as there are what, only a
dozen drivers that have won in all three series?
Thanks, John. Ya’ll need to be posting here too.

OK, I looked it up for Biffle and JG for 1999 through 2005. I could
easily have missed a few starts…
Biffle has 41 wins over 278 starts, 1 win every 6.8 starts.
Gordon has 32 wins over 241 starts, 1 win every 7.5 starts.
Biffle:
Truck: 16 wins, 53 starts, 1 win every 3.3 starts
Busch: 17 wins, 129 starts, 1 win every 7.6 starts
Cup: 8 wins, 96 starts, 1 win every 12.0 starts
Gordon:
Busch: 2 wins, 12 starts, 1 win every 6.0 starts
Cup: 30 wins, 229 starts, 1 win every 7.6 starts
So Biffle doesn’t have as many more starts than Gordon as we might
have thought. Even though he ran a lot in all three series, there was
only one year, 2004, where he ran two full seasons (Busch and Cup).
He’s doing that again this year. Otherwise he focused on one series
and his first two years in truck there were only 24 or 25 races.

Summed up perfectly. This is my main contention with pure stats. Throwing
numbers out there just isn’t enough, you have to know the story behind
those numbers.
