RPG – McCoy – Dega

OK, the fine fools^h^h^h^holks at ESPN/ABC have left the Texas/
Oklahoma game with just 4 minutes left & the Sooners leading by
a touchdown to show something else, so lets do the RPG :-)

The Win:  You have to figure with the cars being more the same than
ever, that the race will come down to who’s the better plate driver
(actually, it will probably come down to luck, but aside from that).
The best plate drivers are Earnhardt and Stewart.  I’m going to
pick Stewart to win.

1)  with the old car, Chevies dominated the plate races.  With the
new car, things should be a lot more equal.  Hah.  Chevies take
at least 9 of the top 10 positions.

2)  The go or go home guys dominated qualifying.  They’ll also
dominate the "failed on race day" list.  Not more than 2 go or
go home cars will finish in the T20.

3)  Earnhardt will be the top non-chaser.

4)  Blaney finishes ahead of Shrader and returns to the T35.

5)  Gordon finishes ahead of Johnson and returns to first in
the chase points.

Stewart certainly made a strong showing, but couldn’t make the
right moves in the last couple of laps.

Maybe if the RCR motors had been stronger it would have happened.

More due to wrecks than the mechanical woes I was expecting, but
Blaney was the only go-or-go home guy in the top 20.

Blaney was top non-chaser.  Nice run Dave!

I don’t think n.com tracks owner points – in any event, I never
can find them.  But Blaney was ~50 points back, and he earned
95 more points than Shrader, so he should be well into the T35.
I think, doing the math in my head, he’s also ahead of Petty.

It was a close thing, but Gordon did finish ahead of Johnson
and is either 4 pts (ESPN) or 9 pts (n.com) in the lead.  You
wonder how it can be so hard to add them up, but obviously
one of these major media outlets is failing math.

    Race:  +3
    Chase: +10

Are you *sure* Gordon won the race?  I mean, you couldn’t hear anyone
booing, you didn’t see anything get thrown on the track, and they
    *were* at ‘Dega after all…

Pretty sure.  Biffle was already out of the race, so they couldn’t
give the win to him.  And they hustled the 24 car into victory
lane (more or less in a panic, since the TV guys were leaving in
6 minutes), which usually means he won.
