PPV Soon?

Does anyone remember the PPV that the Mattiolis tried several years
ago at Pocono?

Well I guarantee that PPV is alive and well. Wait until NASCAR debuts
the NASCAR channel on cable and satellite.

Break out that checkbook.

Did we forget about the recent TV deal? I don’t see NASCAR doing this…no
other sport has really gone this route other than to give your games not
available in your area. You might think Daytona at the very least…but the
World Series, Superbowl, College Bowls, etc are available on networks. Could
    you imagine the fan protest?

PPV will not work in NASCAR.  Think of the sponsorship dollars lost for all
the teams.  What corporation is going to pay the kind of dollars they pay
now to have the viewership reduced by PPV??

There is too much at stake and NASCAR is very good at marketing.  PPV will
not happen, the recent TV deal shows that.

I don’t see how–at least not in the next several years.  If Fox and NBC
have the rights to everything, what races will a PPV operator have to
    show?

Not a chance.  The day the races go PPV is the day I quit watching.

I do, altho it was more than several years ago, mid 80′s (?)

NASCAR is be coming less PPV, in the sense that in the 80′s
you had to have cable to see all the races.  The spread to
satellite, when that came a long, and to more broadcast networks
in the 90′s has prob’ly done more for sponsor interest in the sport
    than anything else.

Hopefully, any promoter thinking about PPV will remember
just how bad the ‘Pocono experiment’ went…. nobody watched.
It was on cable, $19.95 I believe, and it was aired for free
    on several days later.

Now I have satellite, and I’d be interested in PPV for all
the races if the coverage had less commercials, no other
interruptions, and stayed with the race no matter what, and was
offered like with other sports, on a ‘season ticket’ basis. One
price for all the races.  NASCAR on antenna is gonna be a big
    disappointment.

The only way PPV would work is to have the entire race, commercial free.  But would
anyone be willing to pay $39.00 for that.  Didn’t think so.

He’s right, of course. PPV is for boxing and wrestling, where the
devoted fan base has shrunk enuf, and perhaps is comprised of viewers
seen as poor buyer prospects,  to scare sponsors. Winston Cup has a
fan/viewer base to command big network attention and money

I agree – If I was Bill France and I wanted to see my fan base evaporate like
spit on a red hot griddle, that’s what I’d do…NOT!  Unless perhaps Mike
Helton’s been sucking undiluted moonshine and it seeing "visions". :)
