Let's vote, I'm curious

Filed under: Uncategorized — admin @ 8:14 am

I’m curious about perceptions of active or recent past Winston Cup drivers.
I’m wondering if the group in general can name the driver who they think
crashes the least and the most.

My perception is that Robert Pressley is a magnet for crashes.  I cannot
remember many races he was in that he didn’t wind up in the wall.

On the other hand, I hardly remember a single crash by Terry Labonte.  I
remember the second year Texas was hosting a WC race (1998), on Friday,
there was practice and Terry spun out into the infield grass.  Bobby Labonte
came on the scanner and said, "Man, something is really wrong with this
track. Texas Terry just doesn’t spin out for no good reason."  Well, as you
all might remember, that was in the dark days when water was seeping up
through the track so there really was something wrong with the track.  Maybe
that’s why I recollect Terry Labonte as one driver who just doesn’t get into
many accidents.

So, I’m just curious, does anybody else want to chime in with their vote for
the driver who they think crashes the most and the least?

As a newish Nascar watcher, Ryan Newman seemed to crash alot or win last
season, Whereas Jeff Gordon, Jimmy Johnson, Matt Kenseth & Jr seem to avoid
    most of the trouble

The category you forgot – the guys who seems most likely to get caught up in
accidents that are none of their causing – Schrader, Waltrip and Jarrett.

Most likely to cause accidents: any Bodine (!), Kurt Busch

Least likely:  Paintboy, Martin,  Jimmie Johnson

I would add Andretti to this list.

Pressley wrecked a lot, that’s for sure and that’s no doubt why he’s no
    longer in a Cup car.

Ditto for Mike Skinner and Jack Sprague.

Of course no list of drivers who wreck a lot would be complete without Ernie
    Irvan.

You didn’t see Bill Elliott in the garage with a wrecked car very often.

Chad Little, Shawna Robinson, Jimmy Spencer, Derricke Cope.

Alan Kulwicki didn’t wreck a lot, IIRC.

  11. He’s not been out there in a while, but I had to move my Buckshot Jones
collectible car off the shelf with the other cars because he kept knocking
    them off in the floor.
