Johnny Benson has made a lot of us who had faith in his true driving ability
very proud. His profile as a driver has always been so "background", while
his accomplishments are amazing.

I don't remember Johnny B. as a liability to any racing team. He's an
intelligent and very talented driver. It appears as though he's chosen the
year 2000 to prove it. Give a call to LYCOS too.

CHEERS &BEERS

Larry McCaw
Moncton, N.B. Canada
Well, I'm sorry, I joined this one late. But it seems that Mike is saying that
Johnny didn't do squat at Bahari Racing and showed little talent. If it wasn't
Mike I apologize. But to whoever said it, Johnny Benson finished 11th in points
his second year at Bahari Racing with 8 Top 10's, only one point out of 10th
place and the "stage". He's average 6 Top 10 finishes per year for his career,
and has two poles. As far as showing talent as a rookie, he had 6 Top 10's with
one pole, and was good enough to win the Rabestos Winston Cup Rookie of the
Year, finishing 21st overall. Oh, by the way, he had 10 Top 10's in 1998.
Let's see, from 6, to 8, to 10 his first three seasons. Correct me if I'm
wrong, but I think that is showing SOME improvement, which contradicts what you
stated. I don't think Johnny has a problem communicating the "technical side of
things" either. He didn't seem to have any problems as a crew chief for his
father, who won seven championships at Berlin Speedway.

Johnny is a great driver, and has shown it by being a champion in the Busch and
ASA series that he raced in before WC. And as for Mark Martin, he was quoted in
an article at the end of last season saying, "We (him and Jeff) don't worry
about those guys (Benson, Little, and Lepage), we run different springs,
different equipment, different setups".

They also had a different location last year than the other three teams. Jack
Roush installed a revolving door at Johnny's crew chief's office. Three in two
years I think.

Someone wrote about Kenseth, Martin, and Burton, "I'm not convinced that that is
the case. For these three, they seem to have the talent and 'visible' potential
that the others haven't yet shown." Well, I think Johnny Benson has shown in
his first four races this year, that he has as good as skills as ANY driver at
Roush Racing. And his resume,...93 American Speed Association champion, 94
Busch Rookie of the Year, 95 Busch Champion, finished in the Top 10 in 62% of
his 95 Craftsmen Truck Series races, 96 Winston Cup Rookie of the Year. Kenseth
has shown more than that??? Too bad Johnny wasn't given the same equipment and
same chances as the three mentioned.

I say, come on over to the good side Chad Little, Tim Beverly at Tyler Jet is
thinking about a second team. And tell Jack to ditch that stupid looking hat.

Okay, now I will get down off of my soap box.

I came here looking for TMS tickets.

Tex500

Go Johnny, Go!! #10

- Hide quoted text -- Show quoted text -
someone wrote:

> > Hmm...if I recall, Benson didn't do squat when he was with Bahari Racing
> > either. He didn't show any talent as a rookie, nor did he make any real
> > improvement until he signed on with Tyler Jet. I think the thing that you
> have
> > to remember is, just like everyone says "You have to have the right
> chemistry."
> > It is really hard to be able to know when you have a situation that 'will'
> win
> > versus one that 'should' win. What I mean is, you can get along great
> with the
> > team and really gel together, but if you can't communicate the technical
> side of
> > things perfectly accurate between the two of you, then you will never win.

> <snip>
> > And since he started Winston Cup he has returned to Busch to race for the
> same
> > team on occaison, and again...didn't do squat. Don't get me wrong, I
> think
> > Johnny is a great guy and a good driver, but it just goes back to the
> whole
> > 'chemistry' thing.

> > > Maybe we will see Benson win at least one race before the year is
> over
> > > and maybe Chad Little will wise up and follow Benson lead and dicth THAT
> > > team.

> > I think Chad should leave also, but I don't think 'THAT team' has anything
> to do
> > with it.
> <snip>

> > I'm not convinced that that is the case. For these three, they seem to
> have the
> > talent and 'visible' potential that the others haven't yet shown. As we
> all
> > know, if you show potential you get attention. The more attention you
> get, the
> > more likely for your car owner (and sponsor) to invest in you to make you
> a
> > championship contender.

> > Mike

> Hmm…if I recall, Benson didn’t do squat when he was with Bahari Racing
> either. He didn’t show any talent as a rookie, nor did he make any real
> improvement until he signed on with Tyler Jet. I think the thing that you
have
> to remember is, just like everyone says "You have to have the right
chemistry."
> It is really hard to be able to know when you have a situation that ‘will’
win
> versus one that ‘should’ win. What I mean is, you can get along great
with the
> team and really gel together, but if you can’t communicate the technical
side of
> things perfectly accurate between the two of you, then you will never win.

> > I remember
> > back in the Bush days Little & Benson fought it out till the bitter end
for
> > the championship so both are very talented and have been unable to show
> > theyre muster since joining THAT team.

> And since he started Winston Cup he has returned to Busch to race for the
same
> team on occaison, and again…didn’t do squat. Don’t get me wrong, I
think
> Johnny is a great guy and a good driver, but it just goes back to the
whole
> ‘chemistry’ thing.

> > Maybe we will see Benson win at least one race before the year is
over
> > and maybe Chad Little will wise up and follow Benson lead and dicth THAT
> > team.

> I think Chad should leave also, but I don’t think ‘THAT team’ has anything
to do
> with it.

> > I just really feel sorry for Matt Kenesth now apart of it as well for as
> > long as Martin and Burton and the 2 golden boys there the rest of that
> > orginazation will suffer and amount to nothing.

> I’m not convinced that that is the case. For these three, they seem to
have the
> talent and ‘visible’ potential that the others haven’t yet shown. As we
all
> know, if you show potential you get attention. The more attention you
get, the
> more likely for your car owner (and sponsor) to invest in you to make you
a
> championship contender.

We also need to remember that Jack Roush "rescued" Chad Little by purchasing
a team that was doing very poorly - whether it was management, the new
Pontiac, technical talent or chemistry - it was no picnic. Chad was then
able to score 15th in points in 1998. He is now, however, clearly fourth or
fifth on a 5-car team and if he can't pick it up this year it would seem
that a move to a team more clearly focused on Chad could help. He still has
Roush cars, engines and Jeff Hammond. Improving their qualifying would
certainly help. Week after week, Chad passes a lot of cars to get to 20th or
so.

Lee <n8ured...@mpinet.net> wrote in message

news:sc81uge1bi725@corp.supernews.com...

- Hide quoted text -- Show quoted text -
> It just goes to show you that Jack Rouech (spelling) never takes care of
his
> other temas aside from Martin & Burton. #97 Chad Little would be well to
do
> if he did the same thing Benson did and get away from that team. Benson never did much for the team and moved on just like Craven
did for Hendrick's team. I think the proof is in the driver more than the
owner. Rarely does a driver pick his team, they have to be asked. Martin has
been helping the17 for years and probably would like to see him do good.
Even Rusty and Mayfield are swappng cars to feel what the other is driving.
Being on a team has more benifits than set backs.
