Many drivers have driven the #3, and Dale spent seasons in the #2 and #15.
Childress should run the #3 car again and he has already said that it would
not be black.
Personally, when I think of Dale, I think of the man, not any of the cars
he drove. But that is just me.

The "drift" I got from Childress back in February as he was discussing this
in an interview was that there would NEVER be another Black #3. There would
be a #3 but never Black. Chances are that Harvick will be driving a white
#3 next year in Daytona.

I seem to remember Childress saying that he would not run a #3 for one year.
Wouldn’t it be nice to see the temporarily retired number go to Jr.?
About the colour… I suspect the sponsor will ultimately make that
decision.

Sponsor doesn’t really control color as far as RCR is concerned. Childress
owns the rights to the #3, and he’s already said no one will ever run a
*black* #3 again…

No it wouldn’t. Junior has already said he won’t drive it. Harvick doesn’t
want to drive it. Noone I’ve heard talk about it in NASCAR has said they want
to drive it. The only people that want to see it come back are the fans and
their opinions should matter the least in this situation.

I just don’t understand why so called "fans" are trying to force an identity
on someone else. The 3 is not Dale Jr’s number. It was his fathers’. Why
can’t people just shut the hell up about this and let Junior or Harvick or
whoever make up their own minds about what THEY want to do. Junior has
already said, quite plainly as a matter of fact, that he does not want to
drive the 3 car. Case closed. People should just leave him alone about this.
Harvick does not want to drive the 3 car. Leave him the hell alone about it.
Childress does not want to field another black 3 car and GM is not interested
in sponsoring one again. Leave them alone! All these idiotic petitions and
email campaigns started by people who have absolutely no say whatsoever in the
matter do nothing but put the people closest to the loss on the spot by having
to say they don’t want to bring back a black 3 car.

I’m amazed that Ricky Rudd is #3 in the standings and
only 18 points behind JG and DJ. What a great race!

Nobody’s mentioned one very important fact in all this
discussion. NASCAR won’t retire the number. If Childress doesn’t field
a #3 car after this year, he loses the rights to it, and NASCAR puts
it back in the pool. Someone eventually is going to use it. Whether
it’ll be a black car is another matter, and up to whoever uses it or
the sponsor.

Of course, for this to work, DEjr would either have to switch teams from
DEI to RCR, or RCR would have to somehow make a deal with DEI giving them
the #3. The latter seems more likely to me than the former.

Probably…
Personally, I wouldn’t really care if they painted it black, as long as that
matched the primary colors of the sponsor.

Speaking of merchandising… our local Walmart seems to have made a mistake.
I noticed yesterday that the "sale isle" has hundreds of matchbox car sized
#3 cars all selling for around a dollar a piece…
Seems some quick witted purchaser bought a huge load of the Busch AC Delco
#3 cars a few weeks after the accident.

That’s a great story. I suspect the purchaser could have asked just about
any floor associate and they could have given him/her the skinny on the
difference between WC and BGN. But, as happens too many times, the folks
making the decisions ain’t gotta clue!!
