Fox is going to be a tough act to follow. Their coverage was first rate. I
thought it would be bad but was I surprised.....
Personally I have never been a fan of anything that Fox does
sportswise. I thought that they destroyed hockey and baseball
coverage an if it wasn't for Madden the football would blow too. Part
of the problem is that people today need to be entertained instead of
entertaining themselves. They can't just watch an event with out a
damn side show. Case in point go to a hockey or baseball game, you
have to more side crap going on than the game. It is a shame because
there is nothing better than a Nascar race, live or in person. The
event itself is spectacular. Don't get me wrong this is 1 time that I
think that Fox did an incredible job, from Daytona to the end of their
coverage. Yes they had the side shows but Daryl and Larry where
awesome. The pit crew coverage was better and I thought that the back
and forth with Daryl and Jeff was also good. The NBC crew just doesn't
have the magic. Alan has a radio personality and Wally just isn't
ready. He should be in the pits, it is a shame that they could't use
Dr. Punch (Jerry from ESPN). I think Fox has them beat and this is not
a FOX fan....
Just my dollars worth................................

On Wed, 25 Jul 2001 10:11:15 CST, "BONEYARD KID"

- Hide quoted text -- Show quoted text -
<raven...@ix.netcom.com> wrote:
>FOX vs. NBC:

>The difference in the coverage is... like it or not...
>FOX/FX Guys had a chemistry and each week their
>enthusiasm (sometimes got the better of them) made
>you feel and put you in the frame of mind, this might
>be the best race ever... after DE's death, that was
>a great accomplishment... 'since everyone had the
>wind taken out of their sails for the new season.

>NBC/TNT/CNNSI Guys don't have that chemistry.
>They seem to try to hard at times and it shows. This is a
>sports event you can remain fair and still show emotion.
>The best thing I witnessed this year was the pre-qualifying
>interview with Michael Waltrip on the war-wagon last
>week at Loudon.
>Or perhaps NBC will bring Dorsey
>Schroeder in in his place (Dorsey impressed me a great deal on the Gateway
>BGN broadcast, pretty much the only commendable thing about that mess).

Dorsey has done TV work in the past. In fact, he was working the booth for ESPN
the day before J.D. McDuffie died at Watkins Glen. Dorsey was driving the Cup
race that weekend so he was in the booth with Jenkins, Parsons and Jarrett when
they were airing the SCCA race from the day before. I believe Scott Sharp won
that race.

-Sean
Dorsey has a familiar voice - I thought at first it was an old movie when I
walked in ...sounds odd, but I thought it was Henry Fonda untill I saw the
cars going around the track.

Chris
A more boring job you mean. I hate to see NBC when they have a 3 hour rain
delay. Oh they will probably air a tape of a race from 10 years ago. Wow
that's entertainment. Those guys at Fox were a blast during rain delays
almost as good as the Whaaaaatssssuuuuuuppppp Bud commercials !!!!!!!

"Greg Beaulieu" <ab348nos...@chebucto.ns.ca> wrote in message

news:9jshtk$7il$1@News.Dal.Ca...

- Hide quoted text -- Show quoted text -
> I prefer NBC. No distracting ticker, no Hollywood hotel, no constant
> chatter. A much more professional job.

> --
> Greg Beaulieu ab...@chebucto.ns.ca Dartmouth, Nova Scotia, Canada
> My Homepage: http://sites.netscape.net/ab348/homepage
