FOX vs. NBC

FOX vs. NBC:

The difference in the coverage is… like it or not…
FOX/FX Guys had a chemistry and each week their
enthusiasm (sometimes got the better of them) made
you feel and put you in the frame of mind, this might
be the best race ever… after DE’s death, that was
a great accomplishment… ‘since everyone had the
wind taken out of their sails for the new season.

NBC/TNT/CNNSI Guys don’t have that chemistry.
They seem to try to hard at times and it shows. I can
understand if they are trying a harder, news reporting
approach but I don’t think that’s the case. This is a
sports event you can remain fair and still show emotion.
The best thing I witnessed this year was the pre-qualifying
interview with Michael Waltrip on the war-wagon last
week at Loudon. These races should be enjoyable not a
chore to watch and stay awake for. I noticed on the boards
the increase in posts about races being boring… since NBC
took over… I have to agree.

Just my buck and a quarter…
See you at POCONO…

Go #2, 18 & 10!

  2. I prefer NBC. No distracting ticker, no Hollywood hotel, no constant
chatter. A much more professional job.

  3. A more boring job you mean. I hate to see NBC when they have a 3 hour rain
delay. Oh they will probably air a tape of a race from 10 years ago. Wow
that’s entertainment. Those guys at Fox were a blast during rain delays
almost as good as the Whaaaaatssssuuuuuuppppp Bud commercials !!!!!!!

For what it is worth, my fiance watched some of the races with DW and crew.
She doesn’t show any interest now that NBC had taken over.  She liked DW’s
creative use of language, and the chemistry between the crew.  She even enjoyed
the antics of the Hollywood Hotel.

I’ve been watching for a little while now (Gordon’s first championship season,
I believe, or thereabouts), and I have never liked a broadcast team as much as
the FOX team.  I have always enjoyed Mike Joy’s work, and I have a lot of
respect for the combined knowledge of the crew, with two crew chiefs and a
driver, all of whom have been active in the sport within the last few years.

Benny certainly has knowledge and passion for his sport, and Alan certainly has
knowledge, but they do not have the chemistry and playfulness that I enjoy in
    the fox crew.

I liked the ticker better than the NBC thing, though both teams tended to drop
it in the middle, and I could do without the sound effects… though they did
not give me headaches like some people clamed happened to them.

Overall, I’d give FOX an A- and NBC a B- for coverage this year.  Certainly
both are better than listening to Eli flog products or the old (TBS?) "Buy
these NA$CAR products… oh, and by the way, there is a race on that we might
show you some of once we sell enough die-casts" show.

    Regards,
    Eric

I cheer for a lot of drivers in a lot of series, especially female drivers.

I think if you put Benny in DW’s place in the FOX booth it would be much the
same dynamic. I think if you put DW in Benny’s spot in the NBC booth it would
    be a vast improvement.

What that says is that the FOX booth is much stronger than NBC and its success
does not rest on one person. I think NBC was expecting Benny Parsons to be a
    miracle worker.

I like ‘em both.  So far, I think Fox had the better of it, even tho DW’s constant "hey
look at me, I just said something cute" was tiresome.

NBC is hurt by having a weak third member.  BP isn’t enough to carry the whole
color commentary alone, and Wally Dallenbach hasn’t been much help.  Perhaps
Wally will grow into the role with experience.  Or perhaps NBC will bring Dorsey
Schroeder in in his place (Dorsey impressed me a great deal on the Gateway
BGN broadcast, pretty much the only commendable thing about that mess).

Dorsey has done TV work in the past. In fact, he was working the booth for ESPN
the day before J.D. McDuffie died at Watkins Glen. Dorsey was driving the Cup
race that weekend so he was in the booth with Jenkins, Parsons and Jarrett when
they were airing the SCCA race from the day before. I believe Scott Sharp won
    that race.

  8. Dorsey has a familiar voice – I thought at first it was an old movie when I
walked in …sounds odd, but I thought it was Henry Fonda untill I saw the
    cars going around the track.

  9. Personally I have never been a fan of anything that Fox does
sportswise.  I thought that they destroyed hockey and baseball
coverage an if it wasn’t for Madden the football would blow too. Part
of the problem is that people today need to be entertained instead of
entertaining themselves. They can’t just watch an event with out a
damn side show. Case in point go to a hockey or baseball game, you
have to more side crap going on than the game. It is a shame because
there is nothing better than a Nascar race, live or in person. The
event itself is spectacular. Don’t get me wrong this is 1 time that I
think that Fox did an incredible job, from Daytona to the end of their
coverage. Yes they had the side shows but Daryl and Larry where
awesome. The pit crew coverage was better and I thought that the back
and forth with Daryl and Jeff was also good. The NBC crew just doesn’t
have the magic. Alan has a radio personality and Wally just isn’t
ready. He should be in the pits, it is a shame that they could’t use
Dr. Punch (Jerry from ESPN). I think Fox has them beat and this is not
    a FOX fan….

  10. Fox is going to be a tough act to follow. Their coverage was first rate. I
thought it would be bad but was I surprised…..
