Chaser Attrition

Chaser Attrition [original post Pre-11.Rich'05]
Drivers within 400 points after race#

  ’05-’04
14.12-9
15.11-11
16.13-9  (’05 14.JG-414, 18.DEJ-543)
17.13-8
18.  -5
19.  -5
20.  -3  (’04 13th MM-709)
21.  -5
22.  -7
23.  -7
24.  -7
25.  -7  (’04 14th JM-479)
26.  -8  (’04 8th MM-389, 9.JM-409, 10.RN-416)
         (’04 11th McM-431, without -25 = -406)
         (’04 MM, in 6 races, gained 320pts & passed 4 drivers)

I revisited my calculations of 1/04 to see how many drivers were
within 400 points with 10 races left in the season from ’91-’03.

In ’02 there would have been 12 drivers, 10 in ’92, ’03-MK only one.
Those 13 seasons averaged 5.5 drivers within 400pts.
’02: Marlin led the 1st 25 weeks, injured at 26.Rich, Done 29.KC.
30.Dega-TS 1st time ever led points! TS Champ with lowest
avg pts since ’75 PtSys began. 18 Dif Winners-MK most with 5.

CRU Conclusion: Better be in The Top10 to be a Chaser!

After 17.D400, 9th thru 12th are 3Pts apart!!!
Pts out of 10th (9th):
13.JG-48
14.KH-84
15.JB-139
16.DE-158
17.MW-160
19.MK-240.

Both JG and TS said that in different interviews last night.

Dunno if they have a stat man telling them the odds or
whether they’re just reporting what their instincts say.

This, for me, was one of the unsuspected consequences
of the Chase.  The mid-pack–or the "bubble boys"–get
a lot more attention for these ten races.  Then for the
last ten, the spotlight is on the Chase group.
