Well, watching the WC race on NBC, I couldn’t stand it anymore…
I e-mailed this message just a few mometns ago and we’re only 150
miles into the race…

Why are you ruining NASCAR?
I can’t believe this! I tuned into NBC to watch the Winston Cup Race
from Homestead Florida. I really wish you would cover the race.. The
idea of showing your ‘anchorman’ while the race is going on is so
arrogant!
More "touchy feely" features – just what fans of the sport DON’T want.
Why don’t you have a pre-show and show those features THEN? WHY do
you interrupt the race for this?
Just as you have ruined Olympic coverage, you’re doing it to NASCAR
now.
Have you not watched the cable coverage to learn how it’s supposed to
be done?
I feel like I am missing so much in watching your coverage.. It’s
like I’m watching something that’s produced like a highlight show..
If you covered baseball like this, we’d only see the 1st, 5th and 9th
innings!
Whereas last week I was enthusiastic about the TV package
announcement, I now feel like it was truly a dark day for long-time
NASCAR fans. If this is any sign of what’s to come…

I agree with you 100%. That Brian guy was *way* overused. Bestwick was
good, but the rest of the broadcast team seemed stiff. I’ll give ‘em
the benefit of the doubt to begin with, after all this was their first
time together.
Cutting away from the race for all those features was tolerable at best
only because there wasn’t much of a race going on. I can only hope
they’d have better sense than to do that when there some real action to
cover.
Commercials—too many, but that’s become par for every network and will
only get worse.
The real test will be seeing whether or not NBC learns from their
mistakes. I’m not holding my breath.

Before you buy.
Here’s mine to NBC…….
After watching your coverage of NASCAR over the weekend, I have to say I am
disappointed. I have been a NASCAR fan for several years and have seen all
the network coverage there can be. I understand that money and profit is
what is most important to any network when deciding what sporting events to
cover, but it seems that it is taking away from the coverage.
The commentators who covered the races this past weekend almost seemed bored
with their job of covering the race. And their were a few instances where
some didn’t even know what to say or even what was going on. It’s sad to
say that they seemed to not know what they were doing or talking about
during the race. I even found it to be that some of them may have been
reading off cue cards or pre-written comments.
If it is all possible, please recruit some of commentators from TNN, TBS,
and ESPN to help with the coverage of NASCAR events in 2000. I think it
would be beneficial to have people who know the sport and can ad more than a
few written comments put in front of them.
During the races covered this past weekend I became extremely bored with the
commentators and turned down the sound and turned on my radio to listen to
MRN’s coverage.
I hope that this past weekend is not a preview of what we will be expecting
in the future with NBC’s coverage of NASCAR.
I also just sent NBC an e-mail about the terrible coverage. NBC’s sports
only e-mail address is mailto:spo…@msnbc.com
I would recommend that everyone send a e-mail about what they thought of
the coverage (good or bad), if we want it to change.

I just finished watching the NASCAR coverage on NBC. If this is what
we have to look forward too in the coming years, I will be listening from
the internet.
Very incompetent anchormen, they went on about things that didn’t even
make sense to the race. Here are a few things that I noticed that
irritated me about
the coverage.
1) No National anthem coverage
2) No "Start your engines"
3) After the frequent commercial breaks, they would (sometimes not)
tell what happened while away, but didn’t show replays.
4) The starting lineup positions were ruined, they skipped more that
half the lineup.
After the race was over, I still feel I missed something. I would hope
that in the future NBC actually plans race coverage before the race, or
maybe there was
too much planning!! I hope that the e-mails that you receive about
disappointed NASCAR fans will help with the coverage’s in the future.

I’d also recommend sending your criticisms of NBS/FOX/whatever to NASCAR, since
they’re the ones that inked the agreement.
