SUPREME COURT JUSTICE CLARENCE THOMAS TO GRAND MARSHAL DAYTONA 500

SUPREME COURT JUSTICE CLARENCE THOMAS TO GRAND MARSHAL DAYTONA 500
(2/5/99)

Daytona Beach, FL – According to an article on Racer Magazine’s web site,
United States Supreme Court Justice Clarence Thomas has been named the
Grand Martial of the 1999 Daytona 500.  Thomas is the first member of the
Supreme Court to accept such an invitation at a motorsports event.  It’s
a good article, even though they say that Thomas is the "first person in
such a high government position to order gentlemen to start their
engines."  I guess they forgot about President Ronald Regan ordering the
drivers to start their engines from Air Force One…

EARNHARDT VS. EARNHARDT IN IROC SERIES

EARNHARDT VS. EARNHARDT IN IROC SERIES (2/4/99)

Daytona Beach, FL – There is a good article on the USA Today site that
looks at the IROC series, specifically the Earnhardt vs. Earnhardt
battle.  Junior appears to be ready for battle, quoted as saying "Racing
with my dad for the second time in my life is going to be fun. But
remember, I’m an Earnhardt and I’m going to race to win."  What does Dale
Sr. have to say?  "I don’t think it’s going to matter whether it’s little
Al or little Dale when it comes to crossing the line first. It’s going to
be big Dale."

Lots of 1999 predictions, and they're all mine

Even though my 1998 predictions left something to be desired,
like a clue, I’m trying again for the 1999 season:

———–
Top 10 – 1. Jeff Gordon (8 wins; MOV – 80 points)
         2. Dale Jarrett (4)

Best one-car team – if the 13 doesn’t come back full-time, Bill Elliott;
                    otherwise Steve Park

Rookie of the year – Elliott Sadler

First-time winners – Mike Skinner, Chad Little

Back in victory lane – Jimmy Spencer

Daytona 500 winner – Bobby Labonte

Terry Labonte, Kenny Irwin (does Trickle count?)

Biggest bust – Team Amick, Lyndon Amick and Hank Parker Jr.
               They couldn’t consistently get one car qualified;
               are they ready for two?

        2. Jack Sprague
        3. Ron Hornaday
        4. Ron Barfield

Bud Shootout

If this has been asked and answered, please forgive the repetition.  I
could not find any information on the Nascar website.  How are the
competitors chosen for the Bud Shootout?  Why is DE not among the drivers?
 Thanks.

IROC Schedule

Why do we have to wait until April to watch the first IROC race which
takes place on Feb 12 ???

NASCAR content:  I want to see Mark Martin win the IROC championship

More special race problems

Again for Gordon, problems with the non points race… overshooting the pit
stall.  Last year it was a gearbox problem, then running out of gas on the
Winston…. How can a team do so well at the points races, do so badly on
these? They’re saying that if they had just pushed the car back before they
worked on it, there would have been no penalty. Why wouldn’t they do that?

Hello All,
I have just opened a new website up for our national karting team.
Please visit this and sign up for my newsletter.  Some parts are still under
construction.  If I am only so fortunate someday to make it to WC, you can
say that you remembered that kid!  THANKS IN ADVANCE.

Way to go Kenny!

Great to see Kenny come on strong in the last ten laps. Thought for a while,
(was hoping) that he might win it.  Hope to see more runs like that from the
#33 this season.
