Snowball derby this weekend

Fans of shorttrack action might be interested in a reminder
that the Snowball Derby at 5-Flags Speedway is this
weekend.  Unlikely to get any TV time, but there should
be reports online.

I don’t think any current top-level NASCAR drivers are
participating this year, but names from the past including
Stanley Smith and Larry Foyt are on the entry list.

Banquet Comedians

Where *do* they get these guys?  Is there some rule that says "if the guy
appears to have ever gone to a race……if the guy appears to have ever
heard of NASCAR…..disqualify him?"

The jokes have nothing to do with the topic……OK, maybe (it’s the only
explanation I can think of) they’re too cheap to spring for Foxworthy or
Engvall.  Maybe they’re too anti-Southern to spring for Foxworthy or
Engvall—although i notice the rest of the country doesn’t seem to have a
problem thinking Foxworthy and Engvall are too "southern" to watch.

But *surely* there’s some up-and-coming comedian somewhere in the country
who has actually done bits about races…..been to races….has a clue?
Somewhere?

"Was in Hairspray" strikes me as even less of a qualification for being on a
NASCAR banquet than whatever they thought qualified Jay Mohr.  Gack.

Labonte without a ride

Scary times.  I hope Bobby lands on his feet….

PEI! What next?

I suspect y’all have been following the recent drama with PEI.  First, Kyle
is no longer associated with PEI and now Labonte has either been given the
boot or wanted to bail.  Either way, recent events don’t portend well for
PEI and it’s future.  The way I see it, even a merger with GEM will cause
the legendary Petty name to leave NASCAR forever.

‘Tis a sad day, indeed.

Petty Enterprises Dumps Labonte, Could Become a One Car Team

Saw a news blurb yesterday that was expanded on in NASCAR today.

Petty Enterprises has released Bobby Labonte.  It seems they seriously
trying to merge with GEM, but would bring over only one car, the #43.
If the merger doesn’t fly, they will try to race the #43 as a one car
operation.

The release of Bobby is supposedly an amicable, mutually agreed to
split, but they didn’t release any info about what kind of a buyout
package they gave Bobby.  But, I would hope it is generous, since they
are putting him on the street sort of late in the process to get a
full time ride for next year.

Looking at the Jayski Silly Season chart (
http://www.jayski.com/pages/2009teams.htm ) They show Bobby as a
possible driver for the #41 Earnhardt-Ganassi car, but I don’t know.
There don’t seem to be a lot of other possibilities out there.  Maybe
the #21 Wood Brothers?

And who will drive the #43, if GEM fields it?  And what if PEI races
and fields only the #43?

I don’t know which I would hate to see more, Bobby without a ride or
the 43 struggling along with a second tier driver (there don’t look to
be any/many quality drivers, outside of Bobby, looking for rides.

[FAQ] Getting Started Posting on rec.autos.sport.nascar.moderated

The registration process outlined in the charter for new posters wanting to get
started posting to rec.autos.sport.nascar.moderated has been eliminated.

Now, instead of having to register an agreement to abide by the charter, new
posters simply have to post an article like they would to any other USENET
newsgroup.  The first post from any given e-mail address kicks out to one of the
moderators for review.

If the post is on-charter, the e-mail address from which it was posted is added
to the robomoderator’s preapproved list.  Future posts from that address will be
reviewed by a human moderator only if it contains a word on the "bad words
list".  Otherwise, the robomoderator will automatically post it to the
newsgroup.

Posters who wish to post from more than one e-mail address can either submit an
article from each address, or request that the additional addresses be added to
the preapproved list.

You may post from a spam-proofed address, but understand that if you do, it may
be difficult or impossible for the robomoderator and/or the human moderation
team to communicate with you.

New posters are still encouraged to read the charter which is available at
http://rasnm.carracing.com.

Please note the following if you are unfamiliar with how moderated groups work
in general.

When a post is made to a moderated group, it is sent to the group’s moderation
address.  It is not posted immediately to your news server as is the case with
unmoderated groups.  Therefore, it can take up to 12-24 hours for your post to
appear in the group.

Unfortunately, things can happen along the way and posts do occasionally fail to
reach the moderation address.  If your post doesn’t show up after 24 hours,
please contact the moderation team.

Per the charter, questions and comments about moderation decisions or procedures
are off-topic for the group and should be directed to the moderators privately.
A separate public e-mail list exists for the open discussion of these issues
should the need for such a discussion arise.

Occasionally, a poster on preapprove will post something that wouldn’t make it
past a human review.  If you see something in the group that you think is
inappropriate, please do not respond in the newsgroup.  Contact the moderators
directly.

The moderation team can be reached at rasnm-m…@carracing.com.

Question-

Johnson only needs to finish 36th or better to clinch the title.

What happen should he get a DNF. Would that make Edwards the champ?

Sorry it took so long to get these put together…my son (who thinks he

RPG Homestead (Chase X) Tom S.

I am going to be in Knoxville, TN for a family reunion this weekend
and probably will not even get to see the race.  The reunion is Sunday
afternoon.  So, I am going to put in some real WAGs and hope I hit
something.

Winner: Cousin Carl.  I got a feeling he will either bring home a
trophy or the steering wheel.

1.  DEJr outside the top 20.  Not one of his better tracks.

2.  David Ragan adds another top 10 to his resume

3.  David Reutimann brings a smile to Mikey’s face with a top 10
finish.

4.  Marcos Ambrose brings the Little Debbie car in for a top-15
finish.

5.  No more than 5 Chasers in the top 12

Segment one total  -  +14
Segment two total  -  +11
Chase points going in  -  +13
Race total  -  +
Chase Points to Date  -  +
