single file BGN? (just a teeny bit spoiled)

On the restart right after Trickle’s wreck in the BGN race today, I
could have sworn I saw a single file restart … anyone else?  Was I
just not paying attention?  If it was single file .. how come?

Raceline, Raceday, IWCR, Inside Nascar, etc.

Each Sunday, I tape Nascar Garage, Inside Nascar, Raceline, the second half
of Raceday, the pre-race show if any, the WC race, and then on Monday night
I add Inside Winston Cup Racing to the tape.  Then I watch them in order.
What is RPM2 I hear about (network, times, content) and are there any other
good racing shows I should be getting also?

With respect to the shows, has anybody noticed glaring errors in Raceday’s
race coverage?  That’s why I don’t worry about watching the whole thing,
besides the NHRA, IRL, F1, and other pollution I don’t care to watch, but
they often badly bungle the race events.  Examples… Saying Ken Shraeder
couldn’t get up to speed and causing a traffic jam — the guy was trying to
get to the pits and nobody would let him over…. saying this guy made a
mistake and hit the wall — I guess cutting a tire down is a mistake, same
thing for the IRL race at Atlanta, plus they miss a lot of details that
mitigate what they do say and so should be aired.  I’ve almost stopped
watching the show now.

On the other hand, I only just found Raceline on WGRZ Buffalo, and I like
it a lot.  Still though, the driver panel on IWCR is fun, I just wish they
had an hour per show so they could do more post and pre race analysis.

Oh, and by the way, ESPN’s coverage of the Southern 500 was PATHETIC with
respect to the baseball interruptions.  On my feed, I missed an entire
round of green flag pitstops while we watched three batters I didn’t
recognize throw their wood at the ball, no Sosa or MacGuire.  What’s up
with that? If I wanted baseball I would have watched baseball.  Ok, so show
us MacGuire’s at bats Sosa’s too, maybe with no sound until he actually
hits something, fine.  Don’t nuke our sound for the last round of green
flag stops!!  Plus the ESPN announcers didn’t know when they were
pre-empted and so didn’t fill us in on any of the details of the events
while we had a tiny picture with no sound.  They could have timed the
interruptions for lulls in the action, or spared us altogether.  As if we
wouldn’t see it on highlight reels anyway. For the next 6 months.

BTW, this is an excellent newsgroup.

Timing Is Everything

Just picked up my issue of Winston Cup Illustrated, the September,98
issue, and the headline reads: Roush’s Ramrod:Steve Hmiel. Great job there
editors of WCI,right on top of things in NASCAR,such cutting
edge journalism. Can’t wait for the October issue,I hear they have the
story in the works that Darrell Waltrip is selling his Winston Cup team.

Darrell Waltrip QUALIFIES

I just noticed that he made the field without a provisional for the first
time in a long time. I was beginning to wonder if he would skate on the
past champions provisional for the rest of the year…

KYLE PETTY PROTEST CAR

I was at a collectibles show yesterday and bought a Kyle Petty Protest Car.
It is black and on the side it says, "All is fair in love and racing".  I
remember hearing about this car, but I can’t remember what the protest was
about.  Anybody remember the story?

commercial free

Did you catch that?  Nothing can stand in the way of the program directors schedule.
Just as TNN goes to break at lap 313(?) we hear Eli say those words near and
dear to the hearts of all race fans, "Big trouble in turn 3.  We’ll have to
check on that when we return".  Just takin’ care of business.   Get those
petitions signed.

Eli Quote

"TROUBLE IN THE TURN!!!!…..we’ll update you when we get back from the
break."

Lame. Should have stayed on-air.

Why?

Besides the commercials, the thing that ticks me off the most about
race coverage is the way they end the race.  I really would rather
watch the finish of ALL the cars across the line – not the crew chief,
the wife, the pit crew, the inside of the driver’s car…. then after
the commercial (of course) find out the order of finish.  That’s just
nuts!  Just my $.02.

Did anyone else hear this?

On the TNN racecast during today’s race, during the TV commercial break Eli
and Buddy were discussing the color of the new paint job on the Cartoon
Network car.

They determined the color of the car is "Baby Puke Green".

You gotta love Buddy’s comments!
